Hi and welcome to my garden! The garden is located in central Connecticut, USA-USDA zone 6a. What started out in the spring of 1996 as a ring of annuals around my lampost is now a series of mixed borders that flow continuously around all four sides of my house.
Since I'm no master gardener or landscape designer, this site is not here to offer professional advice. I design my borders for multi season interest by primarily using plants with interesting or variegated foliage, long flowering periods, and/or winter structure.
It didn't take me long to realize that staking plants wasn't my thing. I also don't like the look of dead and declining foliage left over from perennials that bloom for two weeks and fade away. Consequently, like many other gardeners that I know, I am forever trying new plants and moving plants around, but that's what makes it fun...isn't it? Isn't it??
In 2006 my garden focus was on more woody plants and tropicals. Now that I have created more garden space than I can comfortably maintain, I have to work on making some of the gardens lower maintenance. Last year was the first full season with the patio and new back gardens. Using containers filled with tender and tropical plants I was able to create a backyard oasis that was both dramatic and peaceful. As usual some plant combos worked and some didn't but the great thing about gardening is you can always fix your mistakes.
This site is a work in process, so check back often for more pages and links. Don't forget to sign the guestbook so I know you were here.
