I love progress.  Below are some pictures of various areas of my garden before I started gardening, and after I became obsessed.
This was what the front of our house looked like in August of 1995-the day of our home inspection.  The foundation plantings consisted of some straggly yews and euonymous that were sorely in need of light.  Grass was struggling to grow, and the inside of the house was dark even with the south facing front yard.
Here we are in early July of 2004.  We limbed the trees to a height that allows some sun to get through, redid the foundation plantings and added a walkway and arbor.  I've wrapped a meandering mixed border around 3 sides of the yard and brought the gardens right out to the curb.
This is the west side of my house in August of 1995.  As you can see. landscaping was non existent.  The lone shrub is a kerria bush that I originally kept but have since deep sixed.
This picture was taken in July 2006.  It's not the best angle but you can get an idea of what has changed.  I'm still tinkering with the plantings and will continue to do so probably for years to come.  As you can see, the garage has been transformed into what is now a new breakfast/sitting area.  The back wall of the former garage has been opened to the backyard.  A new detached two car garage has been built in the back along with a patio and of course, more gardens.  Just behind the fence section next to the lampost is a new patio and hot tub area.
